On August 1, 2008, SJG turns 4! We're celebrating our birthday with a BBQ at Smith's Woods in Historic Smithville Park on Saturday, September 20th from 11:00 AM to 4:00PM in Pavilion #3. Bring a dish to share and your appetite! Please let us know how many will be attending and what you will be bringing for the potluck in your cache note. There will be games and doorprizes at the event! Photo contest winners for our annual calendar will be announced as well. The pavilion is near a playground, and the park boasts trails, several caches and parking spots close by. Activities supported by the park include: Hiking/Biking/Equestrian trails
A 600-foot floating trail on Smithville Lake
Rustic gazebos
0.5 mile interpretive Ravine Nature Trail
Canoe and fishing access to the Rancocas Creek and Smithville Lake
Historic district and museum (for fans of Sci-Fi Channel's Ghost Hunters, the Burlington Co. Prison Museum featured this past season is not far from the park and is open for visiting during the event.)
SJG will be accepting small donations to offset the cost of this event. We thank all for their generous donations in the past which have allowed us to continue hosting events. Also, for the past two years, we have collected donations for the Cape May County Zoo as a unique way to celebrate our birthday. In honor of that tradition and knowing that several members have collected items throughout this year, we will again accept sundries and assorted items for the Zoo and deliver them on behalf of the group.
