"It is a haunted place where the blood red waters of the Mullica River rise in the bog of a New Jersey town....The cedars that line the river banks stain the waters their deep color. Stunted pitch pines stand motionless, their shallow roots anchored precariously in gleaming white stands. Silence reigns."

So writes Helena Mann-Malnitchenko in her autobiographic memoir, A Haunted Place, an eloquent sketch of the Pine Barrens.

A haunted place it is. For 5 long years, the members of South Jersey Geocaching have been getting together annually to search for a shadow of a memory...a legend told in hushed tones around a campfire...a beast that lurks in Pineys' dreams.

Join us on Saturday, October 11th at 5:00 PM in group campsite "A" for a potluck dinner. Please post a note on the cache page if you plan to attend and let us know what you plan to bring. After dinner, experienced guides will lead a hike into the Jersey Devil's playground for a little adventure! T-shirts to commemmorate the event are available to order - information can be found here.

Keep a sharp eye out for unusual tracks, listen for odd sounds and be aware for the feeling that you are being watched – you might just be!

Bring along a folding chair and settle into a night with a toasty bonfire (weather & forest service permitting)!

Folks are welcome to camp out with us for the weekend! Many members will be staying from Friday-Monday in various campsites. For additional camping information, you can click here!
