Cache of the Month - November 2008

Hidden In Plain Sight!!  (GC1BB7R) by Hushovd

Urban caches present unique challenges to the hider.  You can't just stick the container under a bunch of pine needles, there's usually no tree stumps, muggles can easily spot them if not well hidden.  You can't just leave them out in the open.  Or can you?

There are several factors that contribute to a great cache.  Maybe it's the location - a scenic wonder, an unique environment, or remoteness.  Or maybe it requires a clever puzzle to solve first.  Or it could be hidden in a unique way, with clever cammo.  In urban areas, it tends to be a clever hide.

Hushovd seems to be the master of the clever hide, with unique containers and clever cammo.  A lot of thought and effort goes into each nasty little container.  And with this cache, he's done another marvelous job.  And to prove it, he didn't hide the cache at all.  It's right out there in the open.  And yet, there are still a fair number of DNFs (both posted and unadmitted).  There's not a whole lot one can say to describe this cache without giving it away, so I'm going to give you a sampling of comments posted by those lucky enough to find "Hidden In Plain Sight!!"

Another well done Hush hide that I really liked. - Tugwake

Decided to DNF this one until another day. Being a Hushovd hide, I'm sure this one is going to be worth the return visit, and they're great for upping my average difficulty rating in CacheStats, if you can find them. - Grunriese

Your working overtime on this series..all great hides and this one is gem! - JoenSue

This one is very nicely done. Are you purchasing these unique cache containers or manufacturing them yourself? [He's making them himself] Either way, I’m impressed! Signed in and replaced as found. Yep, it's "Hidden In Plain Sight!!" alright! Thanks for the fun! - theGuentherGang

Once again, I'm astounded. I don't know what even made me think that could be it, yet it was! Another awesome hide. - razootwo

Excellent hide! These are quickly becoming my favorite. Thanks for making me think! - imahappycamper

I checked it out twice before I realized it was the hide. And it was "In Plain Sight". Great one Hushovd. It's one of my favorites. - yawlog

Cache of the Month Feature

The Cache of the Month Committee is looking for nominations for the next Cache of the Month (COTM) from the South Jersey Geocaching membership.  The candidate cache must be an active cache in South Jersey (Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean, and Salem counties).  Consideration of nearby caches outside this area is on an exception basis.

The selection process is the following:

• Caches can be nominated by either posting a note on a SJG forum thread, or by sending a note to one of the committee members
• The committee will review the nominations and select the Cache of the Month

• The cache will be written up and presented on the SJG site
• Shameless self-promotion of your own caches is permitted
• Old caches and new caches alike can be nominated
• Active caches only, please.  Not much point to highlighting a cache that is no longer around or out of commission
• Large and small caches can be considered.  We are just looking for caches with that "wow" factor.

The Cache of the Month is meant to highlight those fun, out-of-the-ordinary, standout caches so that all the members of the club can get an opportunity to learn about these caches and visit them.

The Committee

The Cache of the Month Committee consists of the following cachers:

• CC Cachers
• Grunriese
• GuentherGal
• Frodo (but he won't admit it)
• Your name here?

Feel free to contact any of the committee members if you have any questions.  We are inventing the process as we go so your indulgence will be appreciated.  Feel free to make comments and suggestions!  As with any new process, it will change and evolve as we go.  So please think about those special caches you have visited and would recommend to your friends, and consider nominating them for Cache of the Month.
