Cache of the Month - September 2009
GC1MWC7
What really makes for an interesting cache is a combination of location, history (especially ruins), unique hide, and cleverness. The cache page provides some interesting historical background and explained why those railroad tracks were placed there in the woods. This whole area seems to be steeped in history, including the old Paint Works a short ways up the road. But it's the cleverness of the hide that sets this one apart. True to his name, this is a devilish hide. While some have found it fairly quickly, others I'm sure have struggled, and others simply DNF'ed (including two who admitted to it). It would ruin the fun to say anything about the cache container or the way it is hidden, but if you look at the posts several folks actually had the cache in hand and didn't realize it. That's good cammo! Clearly thought and effort went into the cache container. The Lucaston Horse Car Railroad cache is located along United States Avenue, in Gibbsboro. You can probably park along the side of the road (no signs visible to prohibit it), but please be careful of fast-moving traffic. But the best way is to park at either end of United States Ave and bike to the cache along the paved bike trail. There are at least a dozen other caches nearby if you haven't found them already, along with lots of hiking and biking trails. Those gunshots you hear are from the Square Circle gun club on Clementon Road. Make sure you stop by Silver Lake a little further north and check out the old paint works ruins (you can't explore them, however, because it's been turned into a restaurant).
